I have a '67 9.5 Johnson Seahorse, Model MQ11. It won't stay in forward gear. Upon opening the lower unit and examining the clutch dog, I found slight, and I do mean SLIGHT wear on one face. What's stopping me from turning the clutch dog around upon re-assembly? I suspect I'd loose reverse gear, but it's really no big deal in my situation. Please advise.

I don't know about your mtr but I know some clutch dogs are marked to go in one way only. All you could do is try it and see what happens. Also, check your shift linkage for being loose.

The shift lever (under the cowl) can be adjusted on that motor. Try adjusting it so that you get a little more travel in the forward position.
