Alright, I'm going to buy a repair manual for my '79 Evinrude. I noticed that Clymer and Seloc both have manuals. Let's hear your preferences for which is better...or pros and cons for both.

Re: Clymer or Seloc manual?

I've done full teardowns with Clymer manuals, both on the 120hp Sport Jet and the 90hp Johnson. For my money, if you are willing to use common sense, work with a knowledgeable machine shop, and if you realize that not everything shown in the manual is exactly like your engine (although less of a factor on the Sport Jet because fewer versions were made) then you will do fine. I appreciate that a lot of helpful members of iboats recommend only the factory manual, but I've never felt that hampered by using Clymers. Your milage may vary.

What HP motor do you have? I have a Johnson factory manual (same as Evinrude) for a 1979 85hp, 100hp, 115hp, and 140hp that I probably won't need here soon...I am buying a new motor...private message me if you'd be interested in it.
