Anybody have one of these? Do they work as prescribed?

Does anyone know of any Marine salvage yards that might have a used one. That way if it doesn't work well for me I won't be into the cost of a new one.

I have a Yamaha CV85 with manual tilt. Since I bought it new in 1990 I have developed arthrits in my back and it's getting increasingly difficult for me to lift and lower the motor so I'm looking for an alternative. I've been searching for a compatible factory system art a reasonable price but they're just not around.

Thanks,
Terry B.

I don't own one but have been on boats with them and they worked well. I have never heard anything negative about them.

I had one on RED SKY. It was tilt only, didn't change speeds for trim and was very hard to get right. Certainly better than manual but no comparison to an OEM PT&T.

Like you, my OEM trim/tilt wore out and replacement is not available. I just put a PT-130 on my 77 Evinrude 55hp. Price seemed steep till it arrived, this is a very solid well machined item. It was easy to install and while I haven't had it long, it has worked flawlessly so far. Only thing I would do different is I would purchase it with a trim gauge if I had it to do over. The OEM trim was loud enough I could tell by the change in tone when it was trimmed all the way in. This unit is quieter and I cannot hear it over the engine even at idle. It is indeed one speed all the way up or down, not a seperate trim/tilt device. It can tilt to a full 90 degrees however I do not know why anyone would ever need to tilt a motor more than 45 degrees. The motor and piston are built into a solid machined block of aluminum and that is housed completely inside the frame of the device so it is very clean with no exposed hoses, just one waterproof wire bundle.

I have run one on a 50 horse for 7-8 years and it has always worked flawlessly, got mine new and it was money well spent and I spent the extra money for the trim gauge and never ever use it, after your first couple trips you just go by feel, they are one of the few real quality products left.

Poke around on Ebay, those are one of the things that are never "cheap" but you can get them for less than new.

i purchased mine in the Cabela's Bargain Cave in the store for about $150 less than MSRP I always see them there unopened. It works great on my 16ft. Starcraft with an 85hp Evinrude.
