CMC PT130 Won't Trim Up

My 76 1150 never had power trim, so there is a CMC PT130 bolted to it. Last year it was giving me some fits, and I thought that it wouldn't trim while under power but wasn't sure. Anyhow, first start of the motor this year was fine. Fired on first turn of the key. But the CMC PT130 won't tilt the motor up. The I can hear the trim pump running, but nothing is moving. After looking at the CMC PT130 owners manual, it said that the fluid might be low. Which would cause both symptoms (last year, and this new one). Problem is, my actuator/pump looks NOTHING like the ones in the photos in the manual. It's a two piece pump seperate from actuator isntead of one contained unit. Anyone know how to drain/fill this bad boy?

Under further investigation of the "history" of CMC, it seems I may have an older (1992-1996) setup. Can anyone help find a manual for it?

You asked for anything. On my Merc PTT, the motor and fluid reservoir share a single casting with the motor on top. Obviously the pump is included in the casting. Looking at the unit from the rear, down low where the sump is located is a large plastic screw, about the size of a quarter dollar. Full is even with the threads...aka fill it with the engine up until it runs out then replace the screw. Either Quicksilver/Mercury PTT fluid or ATF is the oil required. Manual says look at what's in there. If clear, use fluid, if red, use ATF.

Somewhere in your system is a pump and more than likely it is in the reservoir. That would prevent possible cavitation if the pump had to lift fluid up to compress it (suction side). The pump output could be plumbed via tube/pipe to the actual cylinder with possibly one pipe on the lower end of the cylinder and the other on the upper. This would allow for two way performance.

Usually reservoirs are not completely full but allow room for fluid expansion as a function of temp. I would think that if you looked around for a conspicuous screw, that didn't seem to have any mechanical purpose that may be your fill screw.

Good luck,
Mark
