CMC trim replacement or ???

ok my manual tilt trim cylinder is bad on my 48hp Johnson 1990 model. it's been on a pontoon for a few years but im thinking about buying a new 18' boat later this year. Since the thing is stuck and pretty much impossible to manually raise or lower,should i buy one of the CMC tilt units thats $450 or so or one like the one is bad for $350 plus? Since my old one is stuck could i just leave it on the engine and use the CMC type that tiltntrim's? and couldnt i use the CMC unit on a diffirent engine when this one goes?

I have a 1986 Johnny 48SPL on my Boston Whaler. It has no tilt or trim, but is mounted on a CMC130 PT&T unit.

I hate it. At best, the trimming of the engine is hit and miss because it happens at the same speed as the tilt function and takes a lot of bumping to get it right.

I am taking the whole thing off and replacing it with a 1988 Johnny 60 with PT&T (on a setback plate to make the steering and control cables fit as before).

No way would I ever use a CMC unit again. You can get your engine converted to OEM PT&T for about the same or less bux, or you can do what I am doing.

DWJ recently converted his Johnny 50 to PT&T. Perhaps he has a word for you.
