CMC trim tilt. Is it dead?

Picked up a CMC pt-30 trim tilt motor.
Question is before I mess with the CMC can I test the ram by connecting the black and white wire to a battery?
it has a harness connected to each of these two wires.The outboard it came with does also but they are both females and there is no switch.
so just looking to see if the ram even works before I start throwing money at switches and relays.

Sorry I mistyped its a PT-35. To be a little clearer there is a harness connected to each of the wires coming from the motor powering the ram. The engine has the same harness on it but both are female. Before getting all the stuff I need to make complete can I just test the motor by running directly to a battery?
