CO detector issues

Hi- this is my first post, & I have a problem w/ the 2 CO detectors in my 26' FourWinns; they're going off like there's no tomorrow. This happens immediately after selecting the batteries & supplying the boat with power, and before I start the engine. Even with all of the windows open and the hatch open, they're going off. This leads me to believe that they're malfuntioning, but there's 2 of them. I wouldn't expect that BOTH of them would all of a sudden begin malfunctioning at the same time, when last week, they worked fine. Someone suggested to me that maybe they're wired in series, and that maybe they're like Christmas lights- when one malfuntions, they all malfuction, or at least, signal a malfuntion. Any good ideas? Thanks!

Re: CO detector issues

What brand of detectors are they.

I have had a lot of problems from the FIREBOY-XINTEX CMD-2-M detectors in my boat. I have replaced 3 in four years.

Our fifth wheel has two detectors.

They go bonkers when there is a severe drop in voltage. Usually on the third day at the lake if I haven't run the generator to charge the batteries.

Google the type and model and see if there is any interior "cleaning" maintenance that needs to be done.

Hope this helps.

As ZodFutMk2 says, most likely your batteries are going low. This same thing happens on RVs. I believe this is a safety function of the detectors. If they didn't let you know something was going wrong the problem could go undetected. Without working detectors people could die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

they're not in series but wired in parralle with 3 wire.. whichever one detects,, it sounds off an sets the other off via the 3rd wire..
