I ran across a Coast Guard website describing a local volunteer flotilla. It looks like a great way to help promote boating safety and help people while enjoying the water. Does anyone have any experience with this, or are any of you a member?

Re: Coast Guard Flotilla?

Used to have an active flotilla around here ... very helpful in towing boats in, etc. All in all a great group of guys and gals who provided a valuable service to the community. But then some of them appeared to get excited about the uniform and started trying to act like law enforcement officers. They would also try to force safety checks on you. Not much of a flotilla around here any more. If there is, it is only on the weekends and busy holidays when I stay off the water.
