I own a 2001 Cobalt 226 with an 8.1 volvo. Does anyone else own this boat or one similar and are you happy with it? Jesse

I have a 2007 Cobalt 226 with an 8.1 Merc (496 Mag 375 hp): I don't think I possibly be any happier with a boat! This boat is incredible!

I live about 35 miles from the water, so I don't get to use it as often as I like, but every time I see it sitting in my garage, I think "Wow that is awesome!"

I just replaced the stereo speakers and added the amp and sub that would've come with it had it originally come with the premium stereo upgrade. Pure awesome also!!

I also just removed that little door at the transon, the one that is not big enough to do a darn thing, except make you have to open it whenever you want to pass thru. My dealer called it something like a "Lawsuit Door", like their insurance company required them to put the door on, even though it's not gonna stop anything.

Re: Cobalt Boat Owners

I have a 2004 Cobalt 240 with a Volvo 8.1.... and I agree with the other replier, "I could not be happier." I live on Lake Washington and keep the boat on a lift out front. It is VERY well covered with heaters inside, etc. to keep things dry. It's a sweet arrangement!

This will be my last boat.... (You would have to pry it out of my dying hands!!) I also love the 8.1. When I was shopping for it, another 240 owner (with an 8.1) told me to BE SURE to get the larger engine... and I'm very glad he did. I know the argument about gas consumption, but if you are "reasonable" with how you drive, it's really not all that bad. Only at the higher RPM's does it seem to consume at the higher rates. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a note... budmanis@comcast.net

I gotta wonder if the fuel consumption isn't pretty similar to a small block at cruising speeds? At the same crusing speed a big block should loaf more vs the small block needing to rev a little higher, no? (Or do they use the same drive ratio & prop pitch?) Of course the big block is ~300 pounds heavier.
