Thanks basser289 for recommending cobalt drill bits for hard metal on another of my threads, I tried one on a busted bolt shank I was trying to drill out. Don't know what was in it, but I'd got to a point where it'd chipped the cutting lip out of half a dozen bits and I couldn't get past it. Got a cobalt bit and went straight through it.

I hate to be a braggart, but I posted about cobalt before basser did!

glad yer hooked up, those bits are deadly, that post about drilling right into cast iron was dead serious, literally like drilling into butter

Ray,

Sorry to overlook your advice. I went back to the other thread before posting here and found basser and thought that was it.

Thanks.

yer welcome, they are some amazing bits, arent they? I have a mechanic buddy that has some diamond tipped bits, he said if you bust a cobalt bit you drill into it with a diamond bit ... if the diamond bit breaks, I dunno, 1 800 CALL GOD, lol

or dynamite!

someone loves ya ob, lol, dems spensive sum de biotches ...

sometime in the last 15 years, my cobalts took a walk, should have had them locked away in the MAC box, where I had the rest of the good stuff - eh, who knows, if I need one ill just go to NAPA and get one

my snap on ez outs are amongst the missing as well, THEY were pretty damned good, I hate snap on cause they are so ridiculously high priced, but they do hang in there ... of course, Mac makes a damn good product as well, they just dont have the range that snap has

Craftsman is the way to go for the shade tree mechanic tho, bust em, box em, and take the whole mess in every few months, and I used to like scouring flea markets for busted Craftsman tools ... its like buying brand new tools for a quarter or fifty cents, lol
