I bought a 1974- 16' Cobalt. The engine is locked. It is a 302. I was wondering if I can just buy a 302 from a newer car or truck and put it in the boat. I have never owned a boat before, I am hoping to get this one running. Thank you to anyone who offers feedback, I appreciate it.

Re: Cobalt Motor Swap

You need to go with a marine engine unless you wan't to do alot of changes to it.
Auto engines are not designed to run at 4500 rpms or more all day.The cams are different along with brass freeze plugs, water pumps ect..Plus you need to be sure the same flywheel will work.
Best bet would be to buy a marine long block for it..
Look at ebasicpower.com..
