I am contemplating the purchase of one of these craft. Is anyone able to offer an opinion on this boat or in the Cobia boats of this era? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I believe Cobia has always made a pretty good boat. What motor(s) does it have?

Boat has a 2002, Yamaha fuel injected, 4 stroke engine.
Seems to be well cared for.

Sounds like a nice boat, and also expensive enough to warrant spending a few hundred on a professional survey.

I recommend it (NOT because there's anything inherently wrong with Cobia boats- there isn't)

That seems like a fair asking price for a real nice boat.

that should be a nice boat, i havent seen any problems with cobias. the price may be slightly high though. the 150hpdi would not be my first choice of engines for that boat. hpdi is a 2 stroke that requires more expensive maintenance like a 4 stroke. a 200 would push that boat better anyways. if the boat had a 4 stroke 200 on it, then the listing price would be a lot more tempting.

\hpdi is a 2 stroke that requires more expensive maintenance like a 4 stroke.

Sorry, that doesn't compute. Aside from periodic spark plugs, water pump impellers and LU lube changes, what maintenance does it need?

For whatever it's worth, my 1985 21' Pro-Line walk-around cuddy (2300 lbs dry weight) with 1996 175 Johnson could hit 39 mph on GPS (in calm water/wind) with 2 people and a load of fuel aboard. The 150 won't be a powerhouse, but should easily top out at something over 30 mph.

I know a guy with the same boat with a 150 on it.
He says the 150 is too small. Has to run it harder than he would like.

Wishes it had a 200.

He likes the boat though.

I was wondering if it might be underpowered. These guys confirmed my suspicion. My direct experience is with lighter aluminum hulls.

you forgot thermostats, water seperator, and fuel filters.... on the HPDIs there is a high pressure fuel filter that clogs up quite often. its around $100 if i recall correctly. also, if that inline high pressure filter clogs up, its a good bet you will have to drop the VST and change the filter that fits on the bottom of the electric pump. so yes, the HPDIs are more expensive to service if you change all 3 filters. and every couple hundred hours you can expect those high pressure filters to jam up with dirt, if you dont change them. not to mention hpdis have to been known to foul up spark plugs if you do a lot of idling, and the plugs for them are expensive!

Gotcha. Thanks.
