cobra clutch slippge

I took my boat out for the first run since I bought it and it ran great, but a couple of times at 2500rpms it appeared the out drive was slipping ,the tach would go to 3000 with out picking up speed and it sounded as though the engine was out running the boat. It never jumped out of gear just sounded like a slipping.It was not consistant.The 2nd time it done it I touched the trim down button and it appeared to pick back up.I was not trimed up real high during the run.some one told me it was air pockets. Others say i need to learn to use my trim.I dont know.<br />any ideas<br />thanks<br />Tony

if its a clutch dog cobra the slipin and out of gear willbe violent. I tend to think itsw a ventilation/trim problem.<br /> what drive engine package is this ?

If you are using the trim gauge only as a way to tell where your trim is, it very well may be off. And that is what it sounds like. Especially when you just touched ithe button and it picked up. Too many things can change the trim on a boat to use the gauge as an "Exact" method of trim adjustment.

leave the trim fully down and see if u can make it happen..<br /><br />trog100

Thanks for the advice<br />I will take it out tomorrow and try and be more specific.I am use to seeing the outboard on the back.I need to get use to operating a sterndrive trim<br />Tony

Try different things Tony, I have been on too many boats that won't even get on plane if trimmed all the way down, all they do is go nose down and plow through the water. It's just going to take some getting used to, and if you have trim tabs, that's going to throw even more "Fun" into the process of learning.
