Cobra Lower unit bearing housing stuck

Hey guys I'm new here and this is my first question. I searched the forum and apparently I'm the only one whose had this problem or wrote about it anyway.

Toward the heal of the unit is a housing that according to the repair manual if you push down on the shift rod and pull the shaft will come out as a single piece. Well everything else came out but the housing stayed in so I'm wondering if I can use my gimbal bearing puller and just yank the housing out? If it wasn't a 180 dollar part it wouldn't be an issue.

The carrier should just come right out if #30 is out of the way.

Yeah everything came out nice and easy and in one piece not even like I had to take it out individually or force it all the way to #52... Obviously since 54 is through 46 it stayed in also. I tried to use the bearing puller today got it to grab popped it with the slide for about 5 minutes straight and it didn't budge at all and while 30 is on the shaft it is not easy to get 52 onto 54 or I would just put it back together and pretend the whole thing never happened.

Hey so it's been a while but I wanted to stop back and update this thread I got it out by sticking a steel rod down the shift tunnel and using a rubber mallet to force it out slowly it took over an hour of hitting the rod to pop all the way out of the case. After getting it out I saw that the outside of the housing was covered in corrosion probably from the zinc anodes not being replaced in a timely manner by the previous owner. So the housing that was supposed to slide in and out was actually being held in by the layer that had built up on it I cleaned out the case with a red scotch brite I had laying around and replaced the housing and now it comes apart and goes together with ease. Moral of the story is change your anodes!

did you replace bearing #2?
how did you loosen the nut (#29) holding the gear (#30) on the shaft (#28)?

I have to rebuild mine, gonna start this weekend. its making a bad bearing noise after it had a starting problem.... so kinda scared of what i will find gears are not cheap...

any tips or suggestion?

if my lower can be saved i want to replace any component that will ware out (all bearing, thrust washers, seals, etc)

where did you get replacement parts at?
