I have NO fitting! Just a hole. When I first started looking at this issue there was no hole, then while running on the "muffs" I saw a "trickle" of water on the back side of the cover, thought it was cracked, so I sealed it! Then read it s/b open, then i "opened" It!

No problem; I would still check for sucking air, with the temporary clear hose.

You might install a piece of clear hose to the end of the impeller line to t-stat, and see if it has bubbles.
Sucking air .
That sounds like a plan! Dave

Nah, don't even need the tube.
Without the tube, if the top of the drive is above water, it just sends overflow out the cover, which looks like a leak.
OMC installed the tube after the first units were out-consumers thought there was something wrong, with water spurting out.
I learned this after my vent tube dropped down the drive. And I freaked out.
It's just to let the housing "drain" when out of the Lake/water? Dave

The impeller liner, and impeller plate can get worn.
Or, a pinhole leak in a hose will suck air before it leaks, sometimes.
