Cobra OD Play

90 Cobra drive with 4.3 OMC

I noticed today that if I pull on the prop there is a little play. I removed the nut to see if it could be tightened and it couldn't. If the shaft has a little play what would cause it? Easy fix?

Define 'little'...they left the factory with a 'little' play, might be perfectly normal...

Mine has a little.. Its not much..

I would say it has 1/16, maybe less. I was asking because last week after the lake it had none. All of a sudden always worries me.

Mine has a little in/out play also.

Maybe you picked up some fishing line and it got wrapped around the shaft effectively taking up any slop.

I been running mine that way.. It may be a 1/16 of a inch.. You could take the lower off and look around in the gearcase.. BTW that won't be easy.. Maybe you should just let it ride.. It its not broken don't fix it.. My johnson had a little too and the lowers are pretty close to the same other than size... I ran the dog outta that thing and never had a problem...
