I'm getting ready to remove and install a new transom shift cable on a 1992 cobra. Do I have to take the pivot housing off to install the new cable. I hope that I don't because, I tried to remove the screws with a 1/2 hex wrench and can't get them to turn. What would be the easiest way to do this without kinking or twisting the new cable out of shape.

Your manual will say...you are using one right?

If memory serves me correctly, you don't need to.

bruceb58 manuals has you taking off the pivot housing. If you know of an easier way please let me know, or do I have to heat up the screws with an propane torch and remove the screws because they are stuck. If I leave it on and install shift cable and tighten up the lock nut on the cable wont the cable twist inside the sleeve, and eventually put the nut in a bind,

You have the factory manual?

It has been almost 10 years since I did a Cobra. I really don't think you need to do it though.

I will defer to someone who has done it more recently.

I took mine off with a 1/2" hex punch and a deep socket on the end of that.
Mine were tough to get too. Twisted the punch but hey.... it worked.
You don't take it off it can be a real pain to get your old shift cable out of the housing
