I think?? this is the coil part#
Not absolutely positive as I can't find a diagram for something that old??
Not cheap starts at 100$ and goes up.
e-bay

Are you not getting spark?
Just seal it.
The stuff you see on TV showing someone painting a screen door and then putting it in a boat.

Just seal it, Wow that sounds too easy. I will certainly try it.

Flex Seal or some similar product? What about a similar dimensioned coil? Automotive? Should coils be matched?

I rode in the boat for several hours last summer. There were some issues (minor). It mostly ran with no problems. Ever so often it would sputter. Once it died and didn't start again for what seemed like hours. (drifting across the lake). When it finally did, it ran fine.

When I was researching (looking for ID plate) model # for title purposes is when I saw the cracked coil. I have not yet looked for sparking outside the coil, nor have I heard the motor run since last summer. Question:could the coil have been cracked all along? We are from Houston and were boating in Trinidad Colo. I attributed problems to altitude change. 25 ft above sea to over 6k.

The guy I bought the boat and motor from gave me all the papers he had. One of those papers was a parts catalog to a Sea King model VWB-27456. From what I can tell these are the same motors. The motor on the boat I bought is clearly a Chrylser 559HF. Are they the same? Looks like it to me. Any idea why he would have the Sea King catalog?

In the catalog I got about the Sea King, the coil is part number 2a91475-2 looks very much like the cracked one I have. 818076A 2 looks like the catalog schematic.

I know this post is stretching my original question, but any thoughts are appreciated.

Sea king and Chrysler is the same motor.
The sputter could be the carb needs setting?
There might be a bit of water in the fuel?
No auto coils.

Yup if it's working and the crack doesn't bother you??
Then just seal it.

Yes, jerryjerry is right, partnumber is 818076A-2 and it is available as new, BUT 185 dollars.

One reason why they crack is, if you leave the ignition key in ON position when not running there is a possibility that the points at one of the cylinders is closed and then the coil is draging current.
It will heat up the coil.

Another reason is, it is almost 45 years if it not has been replaced.
They do not last forever.

If there is a crack in it, the possibility of moisture in the windings are likely and it will affect the operation.

Lowes and Home Depot carry a product in the paint department called "Plastic Dip". Same stuff that is on your insulated pliers and wire cutters. You can brush it on.

No, no oil in those.
Try to seal them and run the engine.
If you got misfiring then troubleshot and replace.
