Hi Everyone,

I have a 1967 75HP model 75774. Is there an automotive coil I can substitute for this engine. Coils seem to be harder and harder to find for this engine.

Thanks

Re: coil substiture

If your engine has points with an auto looking type coil, you can use any aftermarket coil---As long as you put a resistor in the circuit or SPECIFY a 12 volt coil. Auto coils are designed to operate on 9 volts because that's what battery voltage drops to when the engine is cranked. The outboard coil is 12 volts. Smaller starter used mainly in warm weather, and battery voltage shouldn't drop as much.
