Hi
I have a wire that is not connected on my nerc 140 86mod, in my manual I can see that it should be connected between the coil and the starter, but it shows that there are 3 different places to connect wires at the starter, on my delco remy starter there is only 2 places to connect wires at
everything works fine, but I wondered if someone know what the wires are for, and if I can connect it at one off the 2 connections I have?
Regards
Affa

It's probably the starter bypass. It allows the power to the coil stay on while you start the engine. When you release the key it goes back to ignition power. If you currently have no starting problems, don't worry about it.

Hello, Yep what Walt says. It allows a full 12vdc to the coil when cranking. Helps the engine start better. After you release the key the coil will now be powered by the resistance wire. You will now have less than 12vcd at the coil. The resistance wire drops it down to about 7-9 vdc. If you tryed to run straight 12 vdc all of the time you will overheat the coil and the engine will die (until the coil cools off)This only applies though if you have the orignal points system and standard coil. Otherwise if you have converted to electronic ignition and put in a 12vdc aftermarket coil, you really want 12 volts powering the coil all of the time. If everything is orignal Merc and points and standard coil are there (and you don't have any starting troubles) than just leave well enough alone. Good luck!
