I've always assumed that Root Beer was from ginger root, ya know, Ginger Ale and maybe dark Ginger Beer?

I don't really drink soft drinks much, but given the two: Coke.

BTW, root beer comes from sassafras roots...

My great grandpappy always had a cask of root beer in the root cellar (no alcohol in that stuff). It was cool and refreshing. Don't know how he made it, but it was better than the stuff you buy today. Birch beer is pretty awesome stuff - we always have a keg of it (non-alcoholic) at the gun raffle the Fire Department does. Goes great with the BBQ'ed pork!

Now I got hold of some "Rock Hard Root beer"s the other day, not half bad either. Had to wonder how well they would make a root beer float but I had no ice cream maybe next time.

Coke for me. Course, I live about 40 minutes from "The World of Coke," which is in underground Atlanta. But, I drink more sweet tea than anything else. And I mean sweet tea. When we make a gallon, we have 6 bags soaking for 30 minutes, and use 2 full cups of sugar. The standard is 1 cup per gallon, and that just ain't right.

I drink more sweet tea than anything else. And I mean sweet tea.

People in CA have never heard of that stuff. First time I had it (in Georgia) I just about spit it out. Holy flyin' flip, I think it's too sweet for Hummingbird nectar Good God man!!!

Chances are you had it from a restaurant, where they almost always use the 1 cup per gallon rule. I usually have to add a sweet and low packet to that to make it drinkable. My mom is funny about sweet tea too, and the sad thing is, she is almost as southern as one could be. (well, aside from the sweet tea) She puts less than a half cup per gallon. Next time you come in towards my neck of the woods, drop by and see what real fried chicken and fried squash is. mmmm. That just made me hungry again....
