At least one small industrial engine mfg I know of voids the warranty if you use synthetic to break the engine in. The cyls get glazed. It's Kohler and they spec it in the owners manual on Grasshopper commercial mowers.

To Coldwater, when you switched over to using Blue Marble Oil, did you notice any RPM gains, or notice any significant performance gain at all? I spoke with someone the other day who told me on his 200 Yamaha, that he's gained 7 mph on his GPS along with 800 RPM gain.

One thing I might try on the old Merc 200 with the maker ignition - try swapping out to L77JC4 plugs as they tend to burn a tad hotter and not as prone to fouling. The surface gap lugs are VERY cold plugs. The theory was a cold plug with what, at that time, was a very hot ignition. Didn't always work that way, but when it did, it worked well. Getting the timing nailed is an important part of the set-up, as they must "make" at exactly 180-degrees of each other. Any slop in the magneto plate can mess up that setting and cause misses.

- Scott
