cold start problem

Mercruiser 2007 5.7 carb. My fuel pump works good, pump throttle, fuel comes out from accelarator pump. This model has a 2 barrell carb, but no choke plate. I figure it must be electronically controlled, On the older boats I owned you could take the arrester off and see the choke closed or not, on this carb there is a electrical connection to a selanoid that must put extra fuel during a cold start. Boat is very hard to start cold, if I pump the heck out of it, it starts and then runs. How to troubleshoot?????

You have what is known as "TKS" Turn key start, And here's a link to the TKS service manual. It should help you diagnose it if you take your time and read it, And understand the system.

Keep in mind it sometimes helps if you can remember to cycle the key on and off two times before cranking the engine, It may give the system a better chance to work right before starting if you can remember to do that.

Another thing you will want to make sure of is that the engine idle is adjusted right to idle down to 640-650 rpms as soon as the engine temp hits 154 + degrees.

And if all eles fails then you will need to just go back to the old way of starting a carburetor style engine and pump it a few times and leave it open a little bit till it starts, And yes you will find that in the service manual. Good luck with it.

Boat Tech , thanks for the info, I think I prefer a regular choke. We didn't feel the earthquake or have any damage. Thanks Ro
