I have a 1983 90 hp inline 6 Brand new battery. It takes forever to get it started I hear the click telling me the choke works. Gas is getting to the carbs I can see it dripping out when I prime it, But the prime bulb does go soft. When it does start it runs great but if I shut it down for more than 30 min it is just as hard to start again. Please help I am a true Newbie in every sence of the word.

Re: cold start

Sounds like you need a complete carb rebuild with needles and seats, Maybe floats also. Its probably flooding to start with because your floats are not shutting off like they should. Replace the bulb also.

Re: cold start

I'd second that opinion. You should never see fuel dripping out and the bulb should go hard.

Sounds very much like a flooding carb as in the valve isn't shutting off when the float gets up to the top.

Re: cold start

The first thing you need to do is get a good manual so you can identify your engine. It will also walk you though the rebuild.

The first thing you have to do is get a good manual and read the section on rebuilding the carbs it was not hard just keep track of the small parts.
Good luck Hazmzt
