Well with fall here & being that I live & alberta canada & this is my firt winter as a boat owner aproching , the temp dips down below 0 over night & can be as warm as 29 celcius in the day so I still am able to use my boat . My concern is water in the motor ? I have a 50 hp johnson & when I pull the boat out of the water is there still water in the motor that could cause cracking due to freezing ??? Or is there a way to drain it all out ? Or maybe run antifreeze throught it for a couple min ?

Thanx

Re: cold weather

I believe as long as you keep the motor in the down position when it's trailered that all the water will drain out, and you'll be fine in the event of an overnight freeze.

You might also want to keep an eye on your lower unit oil, and make sure there's no water getting in there. Especially important in freezing conditions.

Leave the motor in the vertical position long enough to drain fully after you haul it and then that way when stored as well.

motor in operation position when stored. always change lower unit oil, BEFORE first freeze. use new plug seals when change oil, they are a one time use only item.
