Re: Collecting older outboard suggestions?
Ok...... Looks like I've got a:
Model # RJE-19
Serial # 1510935
The outboard has already been retrofitted with the more modern fuel pump too. Sweet!!! Have not yet tested compression but I does appear to have good compression via plugging the spark plug holes with my thumb and spinning the flywheel. I'll get some actual numbers in the next day or two. What would you gentlemen consider a healthy or acceptable reading? I'm thinking the usual 100 psi and within 10%, but I've not worked on anything this small and this old before. What would you consider too low and leaning towards a re-ring and what not? I've also got good spark!!! I honestly believe this thing is going to run. Hopefully all that will be needed is a good carb cleaning at best. Maybe not even that. I have already started the "awakening a sleeping outboard" checklist because I'm not 100% sure of the previous owners' upkeep. I have an idea it's been babyed, but you never know. At any rate, I figured it can't hurt. My plan is to replace the water pump, rebuild the carb (if need be), and give her a go. If I can get her running, the next thing on my list is a thourough decarb. Then I'm going to put her back to bed and begin the journey. I sure hope all goes well. Thanks again for any help on those compression questions!!!.............. ALAN
