I picked up a whaler 13 from 62 with a 25hp 1986 Evinrude on it that need some work. The PO had neglected the water pump so it overheated. Cylinders look ok but I have not done compression test on it yet. The thermostat is also dead (from overheat?) The lower end looks ok, I need to pressure/vacuum test it but at least the remaining oil was ok looking. What concerns me is that all the motor mounts are dead. They have failed in the metal-rubber bond. Is that common for the 86? I have a 15 hp from 74 that is like a swiss watch and the only issues I have is rotted wires.

I have the opportunity to get a 25hp 1990 tiller/pullstart motor cheap since it has been submerged. (in fresh water and it still turns over)

I'm thinking of possibly taking the powerhead from the 86 including all the electrical and put that on the 90 motor. Will the remotes work in that case?

Alternatively pull all the mounts from the 90 and put them on the 86.

A third option would possibly be to try to get the 1990 running using the CDI etc from the 86. Are they compatible?
