I had a problem last summer where I was unable to shift into either forward or reverse gear. It's a 2000 Bayliner with the quicksilver 3000 shift lever. I was able to get it apart and sprayed some jigaloo in it. It worked after that. I did notice that the bushing was broken. Could this be the problem or is it getting old enough that it needs to be replaced. I was told you can't lubricate the cables and you can't buy a replacement 3000 so would need a new shift lever and cables. Is there anything inside that can be removed and cleaned to make it work?
Thanks,

Re: commander 3000 shift lever problem

I recently replaced my balky Commander with a new Commander 4000 Gen II. It's not cheap, $650 installed, but comes with new throttle and shift cables because the old can be used. In my case, I also gained a kill switch, which my Commander model lacked. It works terrifically.
