The $6000 000 question is why? The drive is designed to live in water, when its out in the air its on holidays.

A drive thats tilted down where it should be wont fill with water, if it wont go all the way down dig a hole under the skeg so it will.

You had the time, inclination, and materials, so why not? Looks great. Maybe paint the particle board to give it some longevity.

Sam, I'd say you've earned the redneck overengineered of the year award.... WAY too much work but if it works for you, go for it.... BTW if it were me and I couldn't get the drive down,I'd remove it.... If I didn't want to remove it, I'd put a HEAVY garbage bag over the drive, wrap it around real tight and wrap it with a tarp strap... You could do that AND put your critter house back over it too

I have never won a redneck award, i must be doing something right..:D I did cover the prop with a bag. You guys are tooo funny

I know, i just wanted to see all the funny comments and i got a redneck award:D

You must be an awfully good sport. It sounded to me like some of the others were talking down to you.

A true redneck would just put the old crap boat on the front lawn and leave it there to rot all winter. Or, if Cousin Billy Bob told Bubba he needed to cover the outdrive he probably would have pulled some used rotten lumber from the side of Uncle Lemonts old woodshed and put it together with duck tape. You might even see a few bent nails protruding from the side.

In contrast, you did a fine job of construction and I'll bet your boat will look better than most after a few years.

Over-engineering only means that there may be a simplier way to do it. Not that the outome has fallen short of the objective!

well jim, the part you that made the sig above me I agree with fully.... on the other part, you must live in a part of the country where folks don't know that there's nothing inherently wrong with being a redneck..... That wasn't an insult.

I agree with oldjeep. I think you will park your boat in garage or any safe parking place and wrapped it, so that it's motor parts will not effected by dust.

Props Kevin. I was trying to come up with something clever, but was headed toward being insulting myself. "Smile when you say that, Yankee," was the best I could do. :D

I've traveled the whole country over working with all kinds of people, including rednecks. In fact, some of my best friends are rednecks. Heck, I even have a friend that named his firstborn Bubba! When I go to Bama they call ME Bubba.

I was less offended by the redneck remark than I was the overengineered remark. I make a very good living fixing factories that were plagued by underengineering. So, although anything overengineered doesn't pay my salary, but it does let me stay home more of the time!

Re: Comments on Sterndrive cover!!!!!

Well, while I think you may be a little over sensitive about a light humorous remark I am truly sorry if it hurt your feelings (not joking, I really mean this)..... Indeed the box that the O/P made IS over engineered...... never said it wouldn't work.... in fact I said "if it works for you, go for it" I later listed it as a viable (although goofy) option to protect the drive from ice damage......

Were it "under engineered" my response would have strongly advised doing something different.

also remember

He REALLY DID ask for it :D
