If you can build up a nice reserve of charged batteries to swap in, I agree electric has it's advantages.
It's not so much the smell of the nitro that does it for me, I always thought the smoke burns the back of my throat.
What gives me great pleasure is when I wind an engine up to the 40-50 thousand RPM range, and the front wheels start lifting off the ground. In my case, the engine usually lift's them up too far...
The hum of an ESC or motor just can't compare to that, even if it is faster...

I would never get anything with fuel ever again. Electric is the only way to go. I will miss the nitro smell though.
