I would never get anything with fuel ever again. Electric is the only way to go. I will miss the nitro smell though.

If you can build up a nice reserve of charged batteries to swap in, I agree electric has it's advantages.

It's not so much the smell of the nitro that does it for me, I always thought the smoke burns the back of my throat.

What gives me great pleasure is when I wind an engine up to the 40-50 thousand RPM range, and the front wheels start lifting off the ground. In my case, the engine usually lift's them up too far...
The hum of an ESC or motor just can't compare to that, even if it is faster...

The R/C Cost Guard ship is sweet! Is there any way to have real ship to ship battles that shoot mini cannons and/or aircraft carriers that can in turn launch other R/C planes and choppers, or something? You sank my battleship! Can you say Pirate ship battles? Trireme battles? Battle of Trafalgar? Please say yes! Please say yes!

They have those. They shoot BBs at each other and the ships actually sink. They have replaceable sides that you replace after every battle. Seems kind of silly to me but some like it.

I prefer flying combat gliders. Basically, they are slope soaring gliders that you try to hit each other and knock your opponent to the ground. The gliders are made out of EPP foam so little damage occurs.

40 to 50 thousand rpms?? yikes!! my little 3.5 cc outboards are rated at 18-22 thousand, but could be modded to run at 30 thousand, and i thought that was screaming! lol. and i agree, a near silent electric anything cant compare to a screaming nitro anything for the fun factor!!

I broke down and bought an electric 4x4 monster truck.....for work. I modified it to be able to crawl over ceiling tile grids, light fixtures, conduit. I can't remember what scale it is but it is low enough to go under a pipe that was 5" above the ceiling I was working in.

Think my wife believed my reason?

Nope. I still catch grief about that and the gun I bought for Halibut in Alaska.

I'll have you know I've smoked more ESC's than I have engines. Thermal shut-down, yeah..right
OTOH, you look for the smoke with an engine, when you don't see it is when you're in trouble.

Either way, a piston and sleeve kit is about the same cost as a decent ESC.

Yeah, probably...
I was at 10% with 2 head shims removed on the pro .15, due to them being known as a hot running engine.
The 3.3 runs at 20% with one head shim removed, and a medium range glow plug. That's all I need in mine to make the truck do back flips, and somersaults on command.
Traxxas says up to 33% nitro is acceptable for the 3.3, but I'm not even going to try. When I can't keep the front wheels down at 1/2 throttle, no matter how much i feather the power on, how much weight I move forward, how closely the pinion and spur are geared, or how well the suspension is tuned, I think I have enough power.

I just traded this one for a couple of RC helicopters...
It topped out around 70mph

Now the wife and I each have one of these.
Of course they are nowhere as fast as the nitro, but on the other hand, when something screws up I don't have as far to go to retreve them!

Had a fishing buddy who added a lure ledge with retractable holder (rubber band) that we used to get lures from the "keep out" buoys to the back of the spillway where the stripers would hang out. Nothing like hooking a 25 lb striper with 100 plus yards of line out!

Agree 100%! I'm never wiping nitro off a wing again if I can help it...and the monokote will always stick. Li-po really, REALLY changed the game not to mention EPO. The gas engines are pretty neat though. There's nothing like the sound of a 40%er's prop chopping the air to pieces on a high speed, low altitude pass though.

R/C fixed wing pilot here, BTW. Self proclaimed flight sim junkie and my skills transferred really well into the hobby. 6 years of R/C buggy driving didn't hurt either. Now those rotary wing pilots...that's just not fair. The laws of physics should apply to all of us. :lol:

I've been in all forms of r/c except for boats...which I have been trying to talk my self out of. My current fleet has 2 4wd short course trucks, a 2wd s/c, another 2wd s/c setup for dirt oval, 1/5 scale 4wd gas buggy, 1/10 scale crawler/rock racer, 12th scale 4wd desert truck, and 2 electric planes.

Tried helicopters for a bit but after almost losing my manhood to the rotors I gave it up lol

i still have a new piston and sleeve for my 3.5cc outboards......price tag says $9.00. have a con rod, and bearings also.....if i remember right, a complete rebuild was around $20 for parts. ( that was 20 years ago tho).

For my K&B 48 its over $70. That's also why I use an IR temp gun when tuning the engines on my gas trucks.

I've long been into boats, planes, cars, and trucks. I recently got into helis but that kicked my butt. I never crashed a plane in 20 years of flying RC that was my fault (my only actual crash with control in hand was due to a receiver battery in the plane going dead, not exactly something I could be blamed for) but I crashed my damn heli so many times I lost count. I have several videos on youtube of me flying, one time in the parking lot at our university's football field! I was nuts flying that plane with busy 4 lane roads on all 4 sides. But man, I could stop traffic with my super-aerobatic airplane. They allowed electrics to fly in the parking lot, but not nitros. Nobody ever told me anything though.

One time I was flying it at the stadium parking lot and went to cut the throttle and it didn't cut! The carb was stuck wide open! My planes are so overpowered that if you maintain WOT for any length of time you're going to start to losing parts. My only option was to climb. I got so high it was a dot in the sky. Eventually I heard silence and just pulled the stick back and held it, knowing it couldn't glide away from me like that, it would just go into a stall-spin then I could see what it was doing when it got low enough. I made an uneventful landing right at my feet, but that was not fun. Because I didn't know why my throttle stuck, I didn't know if that meant I was losing my receiver battery again or what. Turned out it was a screw on the carb that had backed out allowing the throttle butterfly to actually come out of the carb. I replaced the screw and fixed it right up before the next flight.
