What is it with these 2.4 and 2.5 omc's? One dies in rough seas the other slows the same way in the same conditions. Somebody must have found these odd balls out by now? It is a genetic problem of the same age.

I really don't think the problems are related. On the one the engine dies completely. The other just goes to idle. Big difference in what to look for in troubleshooting.

The one that says ---Dies on a rough sea.--- Does not die at all. It goes to a smooth idle. Same symtoms.

Re: Common problems on 2 posts.

one does it regardless of seastate and the other only in rough water or a wake. both sound like fuel issues. both will be fairly easy to isolate if the advice given is taken.

And they get out there and actually check something and stop just asking and talking about it.

The other part of the problem is when some of these guys do find their problems they never post a followup to say what cured the problem. I'm not even sure most of the posters even come back to read the replies.

It amazes me how you two are right 99% of the time without having seen it or heard it, just hearing "Hearsay" ....I guess 'cause you seen it all, heard it all, done it all? :D If you actually did see it & hear it that number would be say......

100% :D

Too many people don't have any idea how good they have it! Good & (free) advice is hard to come by....One would only hope that if if you get your problem solved, you would have the courtesy to share the "Final Diagnosis" with the rest of our forum....IMHO.....JK

We have to accept the takers and the sharers. I have never converted anyone off of what they are.-----------Late question .What does IMHO & all the other abbrevations mean? Do we have a chart of the ones used? I really miss half the conversations sometimes. Thanks.

IMHO, means: In my humble opinion......P.O.S....piece of sh!t....Don't wanna hog...A "Ricer' is one of those Hondas with all the trimmin's...that you laugh at when they are "punchin' it"....Off topic....Sorry.....IMHO, everyone needs to know that.... :D ....JK

Re: Common problems on 2 posts.

I guess the day I seen it all they will plant me. its incredible the amount ya get to learn each day.
but if ya do this 20-30 years and sprinkle in a few other carreer moves its usually fairly simple.
I got involved in a trouble shoot on a 115 yam the other day, lead tech wanted to pull the VST(major pain) due to a lack of fuel from the lower two injectors yet fuel pressure was steady at 35psi. I had to stop and ask him if fuel rail pressure is in spec and steady why do you want to pull the VST. most of what I do is common sense coupled with an understanding of how it works. the key is to understand how each subsystem works with the other subsystems to make a system. cannot be done without studying the manuals and a bit of reasearch. I have posted the best book any novice tech could ever hope to read yet I somehow doubt anyone actually bought one. I still refer to my copy occasionally and my mom gave it to me for christmas of 75 and I was about 14. I have done this tech gig a year or two.
thats why I work as a contractor to a few marinas, mostly I get stuck with the menial sterndrive work and inboard stuff until someone gets stuck. then I get to play :) :) . my main love is outboard work however the rest pay well. but over the years it all becomes the same. aint but so many ways to make a motor,an induction system,an ign system or an ex system and its the same with power transmission. same with trim. aint but so many ways to make it and the easiest way to repair them is to do a little study on how it works, does not have to be brand specific ya just have to understand how it works then read the specific manual to see how this guy put the product together.
one of the biggest problms with the fuel system on the 2.5,3.0 motors with mechanical fuel pumps is the non accessible filter on the pump itself. most the time its just quicker to pop the pump off to change it.
