I am curious as to how far we commute to work versus how far we commute to boat.
I travel about thirty minutes to work, and have 1 lake about 15 minutes from home, another about 1 hour away, and am about 2 hours from the Chesapeake.
How does this compare?

Re: Commuting

It takes me three minutes to get to work and five minutes to get to the ramp:D Or, I can launch above the dam in 8 minutes.

If we go to the Mississippi it takes about 45 minutes.

The lake is about 1 1/2 hours.

Re: Commuting

I live further from work to be closer to water (than most of my colleagues). I work next to the White House in downtown DC but live out near Annapolis, MD. It is about 1 hour and 15 to 20 minutes each way.

Our community has a big beach for swimming and its own boat ramp (6 blocks from our house). I can yell at the family and have the boat in the water and be motoring away in 10 minutes.

We lived closer in before schools became an issue and it still took me 45 minutes each way, so with the extra time we a house 2x as large, yard 2x large, 2x better schools, and WATER (for the same price). I can spare the extra time each day.

When we lived in florida it was 5 mins to work and water, but I couldn't afford any boat or house.

Re: Commuting

What if I tow the bot 35 minutes to work, then an additional 5 to the lake? Btw the looks are great when I pull into the steel plant towing a boat behind it, and have to go through security

Re: Commuting

I can actually commute to work by boat, but rarely do. Kinda wonky where I have to tie up and I have to walk a half a mile or so to the building I work in.
I've only done it 4 or 5 times.

I too am curious about how far people commute. I just interviewed for a job that's a 1.5 hour commute.

Re: Commuting

My commute to work varies daily, it can be as little as five minutes one way, to three hours one way like last Saturday. It all depends. There is one boat ramp 10 minutes from the house, and another one 15 minutes from the house. There is also one about 35 miles away, that we use if we are going to the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah, I'll bet they love that. I'd be afraid of all the junk in the air around a steel mill getting into the upholstery though:confused:

Thanks for all the input, It PROVES what I've long suspected though...I need to be closer to the water.:D
