I am in the market for a good used tractor with loader in the 25-30 hp range. I will be using it for snow removal, landscaping , roto tilling, mowing and bush hogging. It will be used hard so I want something that will hold up. As of right now I am leaning toward a kubota or new holland. also the new bull dog brand looks like maybe something to consider as it is far less expensive but not sure of the quality. What do you all have and how do you rate it?

Re: compact tractors

My brother has a Kubota, <20hp but we really like it. we've banged the heck out of it and have had nothing break yet. Uses it for plowing, tilling, box blade, logging.

I encourage you to visit tractorbynet. I have a Yanmar2610. Its a 31 horse. Many people thrash it because it is a gray market btu I am a believer. It costs half as much as a comparable tractor.

Howdy, OMC.

I have my second Kubota. B2150 (24hp Diesel) 4X4 with power steering and HST. The first one (B8200) had stick shift and no PS; that's why I traded.

Wonderful machine. I've had "Big Orange" for 7 years and no problems. 745 hours. Will mow 10 acres on a tank of fuel. Dug a 1/2 acre pond with the loader.

Consumer Reports rates the John Deeres as the most reliable compacts. The Kubs must be close.

ChinaDiesel is probably the most tractor for the bux available, but I don't know about reliability, parts or service availability.

If I needed a new tractor, I would get another Kubota.

Good luck. :)

Re: compact tractors

I just got back from looking at Lenar's at about $12000 with a loader. They are a new tractor that has only been out since 2002.The local dealer says they are 25 hp (the net and brochure say 18 hp) I don't like this dealer already. I think I take a good look at kubota's.

I had a Kubota 21 hp diesel 4x4 with front loader , rotary brush mower, box scraper and back blade ( all Land Pride). Great machine, did all I asked it to and then some. JB is right on about power steering--if you can't get it, you'll regret it. For me it was a safety issue as well as convenience. Put about 350 hours on it before I sold it when I moved to Florida. Every hour was a joy.
