Re: Complete Decarb Steps

I have a question about this. I am figuring that you dump the whole 16 oz in the 3/4 gallon of gas correct? I am just maing sure becaseu the directions ont he can say otherwise. It seems pretty clear but I just want to make sure.

Thanks Rick!

EDIT: I guess I have another questions associated with this. Does this decarb rule out the need for removing the carb and cleaning or rebuilding or what would the case where that would need to be done?

not necessarily the decarb will remove the crud from the innards, if you are still bogging, or what ever your symtoms then post them, we'll work it out. the decarb it money well spent.

I had posted about my problem here:
http://www.iboats.com/bbboard/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=28;gtid=1110878;gpid=1111254#gpid1111254

I've gotten a few responses. Haven't been able to test the spark (correct way?) so I'd be more than happy to hear anymore input.

Thanks,
Jason

EDIT: And why is it that when I post a reply, then (and only then) do I get an email notification of a new post?

Re: Complete Decarb Steps

ScottGW, you are correct about the vro, your forgiven this time for high jacking the thread.

MNS. '76 70 hp johnny. pull each plug, hold the plug near the motor with channel lock, pliers, with rubber coated handles (or you could get a good jolt) have someone turn the key and watch the spark go from the plug to the engine. it should be blueish, and just from the plug 3/8", this is not the proper way but work in a pinch. note findings. beg, borrow, rent, or buy a compression guage, all plugs removed, insert gauge, puch throttle to wide open, turn engine over 4 times. not reading and go to the next cylinder. post the findings. now we know the general health of the innards, and the spark. complete cleaning the carbs, and reassembly with rebuild kits with new floats, as the tend to get gas logged and not float properly. the impeller is a must, it wiil come apart at the most inopertune time,( 6people on the boat, raining, rough , lightning, and getting dark , and no motor) let's get it running properly, then we'll talk about preventive maintainance. post your findings

take that manual and act like you are going to be tested, the guy with the highest score gets $10.000, the cost to replace you engine.

Sorry about that, I always thought hijacking a thread was changing the subject, I could just start another thread but I figured you all would not want the boards cluttered with threads that are similar in content. Now I know.

tashasdaddy, points taken.
Tracked down a compression tester and will check spark and report back with findings.

Thanks,
Jason
