Complete Mercrusier Block to replace Volvo

Hello All,
I have a 1988 complete Mercrusier 4.3 engine in my garage. I found a 1996 boat with a crack block 4.3 Volvo engine. Could I swap the two blocks and get this boat running? I would only be swapping the block and heads, everything else would be volvo correct?

If the 2 blocks have matching timing chain covers it can be done. But if one has a metal cover and the other has a plastic cover, then no.

Ayuh,.... Ya got the Right Idea, but the Vintages spoil the prospects...
Lottsa changes in the 4.3l over the years...
