ThanksIve tried to find those numbers for any year or model evinrude johnson for years and have came up with nothing.....good luck!
I am buying a 1989 Storm Bass boat, boat been redone transom deck ect. But has a Gt 200, they say runs good but would like to know how good or bad the #s are. Motor has new stater,P.P. Starter,A lot depends on what gauge you would be using etc, etc.-----So what numbers do you see on your motor ?-----What is the reason for your compression concern ?
I don't understand Y this is so hard... Somewhere there has to be a place that hE these #sIve tried to find those numbers for any year or model evinrude johnson for years and have came up with nothing.....good luck!
And if u ha e a good gauge it shouldn't matter.A lot depends on what gauge you would be using etc, etc.-----So what numbers do you see on your motor ?-----What is the reason for your compression concern ?
Thanks, ya I heard 5-10 % of each. Power two to be a little lower...u probably know but needs to be within 10 psi of one another good luck
Thanks, ya I heard it was a low compression motor...I had a 1990 GT175. After a complete rebuild it showed right around 91 on all six with my gauge. These are not a high compression motor from what I was told. Ran perfect for ten years or so until I sold it last year.
T.U. Ya I was told it is a low compression motor.. Someone said 80 was factory number. But I think that is low. 90 sounds more like it.. This weekend I'm gonna go see the Storm. Do a Comp. test after I warm up the motor.. It's old school but 2 strokes are Bad Ass. This same guy has a 1989 GT V8, for 8k has some work done to it. It was on this Storm. The boat had all new Transom work done to handle weight and power.. I'd like to own it.That motor has a "open head " as we call it and builds compression as it runs.(see 1st pic)

It is a non finger port motor and need to be propped to the 5200-5600 RPM range and luvs the petrol!!
The later models after 91-1/2 have finger ports and tighter heads like picture below(for V-4 but same configuration) and are a tad better on fuel and like the 5500-6000RPM range
