I measured my compression on my 1957 evenrude sportwin and got 75lbs on
the top and bottom put a tps of oil in and got 80 lbs on top and bottom.
Is this ready for a rebuild or is it ok? Starts on the first pull, not in water but hooked up to the hose.
In the process of painting but I think I need to here from the experts before sink any money into it.

Compression is fine, Rocket.

Rope start outboards usually show compression in the 50-80psi range, which is fine as long as all cylinders fall in a 10% or smaller range.

Those particular models should be run in a barrel only. Hose attachments don't work very well and you'll risk burning up your impeller. If it starts and runs on the first pull, then you're in great shape. Have a lot of fun with it.:D
