compression issues 15hp Johnson

My 1984 15ho Johnson recently took a nose dive. The good running engine was in the water 5 minutes when it jumped gear and died.

I checked compression and both has 55#. I removed head and bypass and replaced gaskets. No change. Does anyone have any ideas please?

elevtric start or rope. pull the rope till the guages quits going up, or starter. have you check the spark.

was the fuel hose connected with the arrow on the primer bulb pointed to ward the motor. it not it ran out of gas. just about the right time on a 15.
