do I just pull the spark cables off, then one at a time pull the spark plug out and replace with compression meter, then proced to turn the crankshaft? or do I pull the string?

I have never done this before and want to make sure thats not an issue with my motor.

thanks

Remove both spark plugs, screw in the compression tester into one spark plug hole, then pull the rope 5 or 6 times. Repeat on the other hole. Ideally, you should ground the high-tension wires, but if you can pull the safety lanyard (if it's equipped with one), you'll be OK.

Report your findings here, please, and we'll help interpret them for you.
