hi all,
I posted a topic yesterday re a dead piston on my 78 model 175 johnson. Now i would like to ask an opinion of you experts : )
the compression on the other 5 are 100 psi.....is this good or bad or ugly???
1: should i change the rings on the dead piston only as i really cant afford a rebuild at present.....and i had a sneak look today and there is some freeplay with the dead piston and the rear ring appears worn with scratches, i would assume 20psi if that.
2: can it still be run with one piston very low on compression until i decide what im going to do? or is this risky
3: it still starts and goes extremely well as is.
4: my last option...anyone want to buy a well maintained 5.5 seacat twin hull 2.5 beam :(
thanks for your input/help

Re: compression question

100 psi ,ok .
Most important part is the difference between the highest\lowest cylinder , should NOT excide 10% difference .

1: Yes you could , but I would have changed the rings ( + hone cylinders ) on those other pistons too , you still have to bye a gasket kit + its the same amount of work .

2: You could ,BUT it gets more expensive , today 1 piston/rings > tomorrow a new rod , maybe new crankshaft +++ , bearings .

3: se above .

4:
