What should the compression readings be on a 2007 Merc
150 Optimax be? I'm looking to buy a boat tomorrow and want to check
it out.

Re: Compression readings

You may want to consider doing a few more engine checks than just the compression test. The FAQ section has a good article on what to check and it is titled: General Engine Checks by Joe Reeves Some of the checks listed apply only to motors with carbs and other type ignition systems, but other checks will apply to your motor. Checking the appearance of the plugs, checking for a strong spark on all cylinders, and checking for water in the lower unit oil would be the minimum I would do, in addition to the compression check. Use the search function to find other posts covering this topic.

There will be various opinions on what compression is OK, but I think that a reading over 100psi on all cylinders, with no more than 10% difference between high and low reading, is OK. For a relatively new motor like this, I would expect at least 110psi on each cylinder with less than 5 psi difference between them.
