Did not pull the head . I noticed a small bulge and a small crack in the housing around the area were the piston connects to the crank shaft . After pricing parts and hassle of a overhaul . I'm going to do some used motor shopping today.

Motor shopping did not find what I was looking for. So guess I'm going to repair what I have. Thanks for the link Gary H NC . Just want to make sure this is the manual I need to over haul my piston.

Decided to take a look at #1 piston.

Nothing a little JB weld cant fix (LOL). Looks the risk pin bearing and some water. So how much of the motor do I have to take apart ?

Would you happen to have a picture of this? If it's the block, you will have to get a used block from somewhere to fix this problem. But we need to know where the bulge and crack are, and a picture would help a lot.

It is in the case not sure what caused it did not find any metal frags. back there and the inside is smooth think it can be easily repaired with some epoxy. My biggest thing now is ordering the correct repair manual.

Pulling the head off wouldn't require the manual, it's just a some bolts and maybe a temp wire for the t-stat., and the spark plugs. I' not too familiar with that engine, but if it is a bulge that is not supposed to be there, then it's sounding like something internal snapped and hit the side of the cylinder or block.

Can any one tell why Im seeing all this water ? Thinking the piston cracked the head . I just ordered the manual today from the link Gary gave me (Thanks) not going any farther on the rebuild till I get it . Hopeing to get started this weekend.

Got my service manual today in new like condition (thank you Gary NC) removed head . Found blown head gasket,Lower #3 cylinder deep scratches(psi 125 )don't know how,#1 upper cylinder (psi 0) wow new head time .This weekend I'm going to start overhaul . Need to find local machine shop for cylinder repair . Any advice with over haul ?

You'll want to seriously consider how much money you are willing to throw at a '73 115. In my opinion, you'd be better off bargain hunting for a post '78 in serviceable condition. '78 was a model change, and the number of available parts has gotta be tenfold that of the '73-'77 era. There's lots of them out there to be had cheaper than you can rebuild the one you have if you're willing to hunt some.

Something to consider anyway.

As the owner of a '73 I wholeheartedly agree with the above. I dread the day something happens to my lower unit because finding a good one for a pre-'78 is tough and expensive. Does your current motor have power tilt/trim?
