I just ran a compression test on my 1995 evinrude intruder motor. I didn't do a decarb and my gauge is probably somewhere around ten years old although its been used rarely.
1)98 2)99 3)95 4)95 5)92 6)92.

Someone had did a compression test on it in 2003 those numbers where as follows 1)105 2)105 3)100 4)100 5)100 6)100

I keep fouling number 3 and 5. I have changed the stator out and now i suspect the pack is bad. Do you think these numbers would come up any if i did a decarb?

Re: Compression test

Might come up, but they're not really bad numbers.

Re: Compression test

It's hard to compare the two seperate test's, as those compression testers are seldom in agreement. Those figures look fine to me.

Re: Compression test

I think that the de-carbon treatment would be likely to narrow the range of compression readings.

After you decarb, be sure to clean and test your recirculation check valves.

After you have your system cleaned, you can help to maintain it by using BRP Carbon Guard PN 775629or a similar outboard manufacturer's gas treatment. If you use BRP XD-50 oil, it has the carbon treatment built in (Carb-X). Most synthetic or synthetic blend TC-W3 oils will produce less carbon because of a higher flashpoint.
