I have been reading on this site that compression should be 100 or more with not more than 15 difference between cylinders. I have a 1990 Johnson 150 gt with compression readings of
90 90
90 90
85 85
The service guy said this was good that they look for more than 15 difference between cylinders. Should I be concerned, I am hearing two different stories?
Thanks in advance

Re: compression

Howdy, Wili. Welcome to the board.

If the wrench took the readings with the engine cold I would agree with him, but ask how many hours the engine has on it. The compression is about the minimum I would accept, but the variance is very good.

Compression guages will give different readings and different wrenches use different procedures, so I don't think you have any worries there.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: compression

I will be talking to him next week and will ask the questions you brought up. The motor does not have an hour meter on it that I am aware of. Thanks for the reply
