Hey salt, I have no clue about how to surface the head other than the easy way of taking it to a machine shop. And is it true about coating the new head gasket with engine oil at install ? Heard that somewhere.
This jewel hasn't run on quite a while. It has many new parts and the carbs have been gone thru recently. Will probably just get it to fire up and muff it for a few min, do the decarb, and recheck everything.
If i may ask, What is your tranny fluid procedure you use for the decarb. And is it as effective as the sprays and spark plug hole sprayings that everyone talks about.

I have also been researching the best compression tester to buy after learning a lesson about buying a lower end brand. I rented one , an OEM tools brand and it was rather nice and accurate. So many of them pop up on searches claiming to be the best. Both the OEM tools brand and the mightyvac brand have great overall reviews from what I read. The first was about $35 and the MV is bout $80. Any thoughts ?

Anything oily works, tranny fluid has cleaners but not really necessary. Just free up the rings and coat the walls. The best is when you do it before you ever turn it if you don't know it's history.

Head; flat piece of something, glass is used by some. I use 120 grit sandpaper looking straight up. Figure 8 with your hand until it's all smooth. 30 minutes or so....then the rest of the procedures. Gasket goes on dry.
