Okay here is the situation....

Win XP Home

Regardless of what I do the results are the same.

I can not get ANYTHING to respond and get a "Not responding" message. If I open anything it only allows me to open the folder and go no further.

I did a System Restore from safe mode and still the same result after the restore.

I decided to re-load the entire XP and when it finally gets to the choices of what to do... the keyboard quits and I can go no further.

I can not convey the amount of frustration I have without swearing.....

I can not figure if it is the processor, motherboard, harddrive completely lost on this one.

Thank goodness the laptop is working.

Bob

Toasted! The motherboard died and the hard drive went too.

I am back up and running on another unit now.

Bob

Bummer! That seems odd that both the HDD and motherboard went at the same time. You may not want or have the means to test this, but have you hooked the old HDD to another computer to see if it works as a secondary drive? You could at least retrieve the data.

On the other hand, sometimes it's nice to "have" to buy a new computer too! ;)

Yeah the intent is to repair it as a back-up unit and salvage the data from the drive (I will turn the old drive into a slave drive). When the motherboard passed away it took the USB ports with it.

There are a lot of issues and it was time for that beast to be set aside.

Now running a new Intel P4 3 ghz with 1 meg of ram. I even treated myself to a new 19" flat panel monitor. It was time for a change.
