Re: Computer help!

I know this is going to sounds very odd, but I have seen it work several times and it doesn't cost anything so what the h***. Remove the hard drive place it in the freezer over night and then in the morning remove it and immediately try to boot up the pc and remove the files. It depends on how bad the drive is as to whether or not it’ll work. here ia a link also that mentions the recovery process by freezing it(last thread) http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=47020

Good luck

Re: Computer help!

If the hard drive is truly fried then it wasn't the windows update that caused the problem.

Age can kill a drive, but more likely it was either overheated or abused with some sort of G force shock. When you mount your new drive make sure it can get plenty of air and that you don't block any air inlet's into the case. Then when you mad at the computer you must avoid throwing it against the wall or hitting it with a hammer.

Is the system a laptop?

I have allways liked Western Digital drives, but others will swear by maxtor. I have seen them all fail, seagate more than others.

Re: Computer help!

Hard drive well ventilated, in a 3 year old reconditioned tower PC - so don't know how old it really was or how it was treated before I got it.

Maxtor and Western Digital were the same price, so picked up the Western Digital today. WIll try the freezing before it gets sent to PSU. Thanks for the tips.

Voxmorgan - Thanks! It worked! Never thought freezing would do the trick! But it did!
