Seems my computer clock loses time. Is it me or can it lose time? Don't know how it measures time....power cycles? Just seems strange.

It can lose time especially if you rarely turn your computer off and on. Running programs that require lots of memory can also cause the clock to slow down. Restarting your computer should fix the problem. If it doesn't, try re-setting the CMOS internal clock. Press F2 during initial boot up to check and change time is needed.

Open up the clock and click on the internet time tab. Check the "automatically sync with an internet time server" box.

How old is the computer? Could be the BIOS battery.

Thanks for the input guys. The machine is only a year old or so. I'll give the suggestions a shot.

To set your computer clock go to Start>run and type
cmd >press enter

type or paste this in the dos prompt:
net time /setsntp:tick.usno.navy.mil
That will have your computer sync with the US Navy clock, which is the offical clock of the USA.

I see that on some XP machines. Most are missing the Internet Time tab. Mine doesn't have it. Any idea what the diff is? XP Pro SP2 here.

Yabut...

That one's a "restricted" server.

Instead pick a secondary server (or 3) that's geographically close to you. See Rules of Engagement

I have no idea...I only noticed it was there a few months ago. I just reinstalled XP pro with all the updates, and it came with it.

Edit: Laptop with SP2 doesn't have it. Weird....

If your computer a member of a domain then this tab disappears. It gets its time from the PDC of the domain.

Download a free program called atomic clock sync. It can be had at download.com and when run will automatically sync up your computers clock to the US atomic clock in Boulder colorado.

Mac CMOS batteries go bad just the same as every other computer, and their clocks are no more accurate than any other machine.

You are assuming it is a battery or a clock problem.

Mine don't lose time.
But every pc I ever owned did lose time.

Macs also have a battery and it's required for keeping time just like a PC. Also, on some Macs, the battery is required to boot the machine. So in some cases. No battery, no boot at all.
