You are assuming it is a battery or a clock problem.

Windows isn't responsible for keeping time, so you can't blame it on that no matter how hard you try.

Ok, so now two of you are saying this is a battery problem? Right?

So what is the fix for a bad battery?
It would seem that all the tinkering and resetting would be fruitless, if the problem is a bad battery. Wouldn't it require a new battery?

That's the most common cause for losing time. The CMOS battery powers the RTC (Real Time Clock) on the motherboard. For most computers the battery is a CR2032. It's somewhere beween the size of a nickel and quarter. You can get them at drug stores, Wal-Mart etc... I think they're less than $2.

It's impossible to tell without further input from the original poster. Regardless of what the problem is caused by, it can be fixed simply by synching with the windows time server, or another time server. That is, an easy fix that wouldn't be possible without the use of windows. ;)

Ok, I'm learning something here.
Explain this part to me. "That is, an easy fix that wouldn't be possible without the use of windows."

If you didn't have windows then you wouldn't have the built in ability to sync with an internet time server.

As far as I know, Windows, Mac, Linux, and all flavors of UNIX can synchronize with time servers.

But I thought macs always work perfectly? Why would they need to incorporate such a feature? :^

LOL

So the Mac user can sync to the incorrect time, when he plugs into a Windows based network. d:)
