So what is the fix for a bad battery?
It would seem that all the tinkering and resetting would be fruitless, if the problem is a bad battery. Wouldn't it require a new battery?
That's the most common cause for losing time. The CMOS battery powers the RTC (Real Time Clock) on the motherboard. For most computers the battery is a CR2032. It's somewhere beween the size of a nickel and quarter. You can get them at drug stores, Wal-Mart etc... I think they're less than $2.

It's impossible to tell without further input from the original poster. Regardless of what the problem is caused by, it can be fixed simply by synching with the windows time server, or another time server. That is, an easy fix that wouldn't be possible without the use of windows.
