Could be two things... and most likely both....
a. Firstly, your line from your ethernet is probably hooked into the port that would normally go to a cable router or other Outside internet sorce. Doing this makes your router a firewall that prevents you from seeing everything on the network because the wireless router is blocking it. Usually on residental type wireless routers, there is one port dedicated to outside and 4 or more ports dedicated to inside wired connections. You need to have that network cable plugged into one of those four ports, instead of the one lone port.
B. Also, before adding to your network as above, You need to make sure that the wireless router is programmed not to assign your addressing. (Turn off DNS) Usually out of the box, this is turned on, and if placed on your network as described above, you will have two devices fighting to assign your computer an address. When this happens, devices on one addressing device don't know the other computers exist that are getting their address from the other addressing device and you will end up creating all kinds of connection problems over the whole network.
